Wauwatosa School District: Exploring Science
The Wauwatosa School District engaged Harwood Engineering to provide engineering services for a variety of improvements addressing several programmatic needs throughout the district’s facilities.
The enhancements provided by the $3.4 project include: 13 renovated science classrooms to support the district’s science curriculum at East and West High Schools, as well as Whitman and Longfellow middle schools; athletic field restoration at Breitlow Field; and replacement of a gymnasium floor (which at more than 50 years old had become a safety issue for the school district.)
The science classroom renovation projects provided all new spaces, finishes and materials to support a higher standard of science education the district desired, particularly in support of the district’s expanding Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) focus. Another major driver of the project was to provide spaces that were handicap accessible. New cabinetry, fume hoods, exhaust systems, lighting and infrastructure were included in the project.
